Walnut Memorial Block

The Walnut Memorial Block is for the people whose memorial belongs indoors ??? on the mantelpiece, the office shelf, the corner of a bedside table, the windowsill above the kitchen sink. Some memorials belong out in the weather. This one belongs in the warm.

Each block is cut from a single piece of American black walnut (FSC-certified, sourced from a sustainable family forestry in Pennsylvania), then hand-planed, hand-sanded, and finished with three coats of hand-rubbed Danish oil. The grain deepens over the years ??? a block bought today will be richer in a decade and richer still in twenty years. That is the way of walnut.

The QR is set into the top face in a bronze bezel, recessed beneath sapphire glass and bonded with marine-grade resin. Touch a phone to it and the full memorial opens ??? photographs, stories, voice notes, contributions from family members who have edit access. The bronze setting is hand-patinated and will darken slowly to a quiet warm brown.

Engraved with the name, dates, and a single line of your choosing, set in the same hand-laid typography we use on the bronze plaques. Comes in a linen-wrapped gift box with a small bottle of refill Danish oil and a handwritten card. Signed on the underside by the maker.
